Academici

Academici: 18 of Australia's leading Contemporary Artists in Rome

This cutting-edge show, perhaps the first of its kind in Italy, represents the highest level of contemporary cross-discipline practice in Australia, with artists employing a large range of media such as photography, painting, sculpture, film, installation and jewellery. Academici showcases 18 artists from The Rome Studio Residency 1999-2004, supported by the Australia Council for the Arts Visual Arts/Crafts Board at the British School at Rome, and after opening at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, in March, Academici will travel to the British School at Rome, opening on Thursday the 19th of May and running until June the 5th 2005.

The artists in this exhibition, curated by Kit Wise, are: Tom Alberts, Vito Bila, Angela Cavalieri, Alex Gawronski, Anne Harry, Euan Heng, Timothy Horn, David Keeling, Simone Mangos, Sebastian Di Mauro, Christine Morrow, Nell, Alexander Pittendrigh, Valerie Tring, Catherine Truman, Geoff Weary, Andrew Wright-Smith, Alexander Zubryn.

The inauguration will be held on Thursday 19 May, 6 - 8 pm with a recital by Leanne Kenneally (soprano) from the Sydney Opera House, joined by the baritone Leon Warnock performing music by Mozart, Puccini, and Tosti.
