Current Exhibitions

Exhibitions by Resident Scholars Visual art and architecture scholars are normally invited to hold an informal exhibition of their work during their residency.

The aim of the programme is to stimulate international interest in the work of British artists and architects, and to promote fruitful exchange between those artists and a wider audience.

The BSR also organizes occasional exhibitions relating to other aspects of its activities, such as the archive.

David Spero: Churches

15 May – 6 June
British School at Rome 61 via Gramsci, Rome, Ital
y

To coincide with his Photoworks Fellowship at the British School at Rome, David Spero will be exhibiting a selection of works from his series Churches as part of the FotoGrafia 2009 festival of photography in Rome. In an era of globalisation and migration in which religion is the subject of complicated political debates and the focus of many conflicts, it is often forgotten how religious beliefs offer a sense of community and support for those experiencing the displacement of urban existence. Spero’s work acknowledges that the divine may exist in the most unlikely places and testifies to an enduring need to seek out a state of grace.
